Today, we’re launching Summit, a new student magazine at Macalester. As two student journalists, we created Summit to let our curiosities guide our reporting and so we can share our findings with the community.

Summit will feature stories about our campus and the people and history it contains. Long-form journalism, data journalism, and photography will be at the forefront of our work.

Our inaugural pieces include an exploration of the public safety department, residence hall sustainability, a profile of prolific type designer Chank Diesel, a small tortoise shell-coated cat, and more.

Let us know your thoughts, what we should be looking into, or if you would like to contribute to Summit.

Excitedly,

Catherine Kane is a sophomore from Falls Church, Va. She is happy to no longer go to school across the street from Northrop Grumman’s global headquarters.

Jerome Paulos is a sophomore from Berkeley, Calif. His favorite study spot on the Macalester campus is next to the nuclear waste in the Olin-Rice basement.
